Leadership, Abraham Lincoln Style

In

Abraham LincolnHave you ever listened to a leader and thought, "You just don't have it right"? Have you looked at the world around you with all of the different types of leaders and wondered what makes a good leader? I have been asking myself both of these questions for the last couple days but rather than look at what a good leader isn't I decided to look at what a good leader is. Abraham Lincoln is considered, by scholars, to be the best President in US history so I decided to look at his leadership style for insights into what I should look for in leaders locally, in the church, and on a large scale. What I found was somewhat amazing and was left wondering if Lincoln wouldn't get booed out of office if he lived today.

A Case Against Living The Pop Culture Life

In

Pop CultureLiving the pop culture life will leave you empty and may just shorten your life. While this is the case, most of us westerners are living it on a daily basis. Pop culture permeates through our lives from TV, to schools, to the work place, to our coffee. This morning, while I was getting a Starbucks coffee, I noticed a Sheryl Crow CD. This was not a CD of Sheryl Crow songs but songs she likes to listen to.

In the past people would follow prophets, doctors, philosophers, and other people they saw as wise and looking out for their well being. These days the case has changed drastically. These days we follow celebrities, the teachings of people who tell us what we want, our friends, and others we deem exciting.
